Newport Beach is one of the most beautiful port cities in the world. It is located in Southern California's Orange County and boasts its geographical gift from nature. As with all the places that have nice views, this is a wealthy neighborhood where many Hollywood celebrities and sports stars live.
Its climate is closer to that of San Diego rather than Los Angeles with cooler summers and warmer winters. The western coastal shores of California usually have mild currents, but Newport beach has exceptionally stronger currents making the shoreline wavy and beautiful. The natural features of this beach were maximized with the building of a breakwater and bay.
The sight of expensive yachts docked at the port is what Newport is most known for. There are also little islands around the area connected by bridges. Newport Beach may give a surreal impression to some. There are many resorts and hotel chains for tourists throughout the beach. One of the biggest islands off the Californian shore is Catalina Island, with daily boats setting sail from here. Numerous yachts that sail across the Pacific Ocean to America also dock here.
UC Irvine is located close to Newport Beach, which adds to the preppy impression of this place.
Newport Beach has been holding a Christmas Yacht Parade every year since 1908. Yachts, canoes, kayaks, and various other boats all line up to light up the harbor at night. While most other Christmas events seen on TV have snow, this Californian event with no snow offers a striking contrast.
